How long will it take for me to be able to walk again?

Full support is generally restored after an osteotomy 1 month after surgery.

If I no longer have pain, can I reduce or eliminate one of the treatments?

Follow the recommendations on the prescription you were given. If in doubt, please contact your doctor.

Can I take my usual medication in combination with the prescribed painkillers?

Yes, provided you have indicated all of your usual treatment during the anesthesia consultation. Do not combine other painkillers.

What follow-up is put in place after my intervention?

At the discharge from hospital, you will have the date of the post-operative consultation appointment (D+30 approximately). You are also in constant contact with your surgeon via the Orthense site.

Step 01
Anesthesia consultation

Anesthesia is a set of techniques that allows a surgical procedure to be performed by eliminating or reducing pain during and after the operation in optimal safety conditions.
On the day your surgery is scheduled, an appointment date for an anesthesia consultation is agreed. If you do not have a specific medical history, e-ci can be organized remotely during a teleconsultation.

This consultation contributes to the pre-anesthetic evaluation of the patient's condition justifying the prescription or not of additional examinations, and possible specialized consultations allowing an evaluation of the surgical risk.

Step 02
The radiographic assessment

We carry out all osteoarticular radiological assessments according to medical prescription.

EOS radiography allows the study of deformities of the lower extremities (especially of the hip and knee joints), providing precision and functional information on patients.

In the management of prostheses, it makes it possible to improve preoperative computerized planning, to control the correct surgical execution and the correct correction of deformations.

Step 03
Hospitalization before surgery

You will be welcomed the same day of surgery at the admissions office of Pierre-Paul Riquet Hospital. The programming department will have informed you of your place of residence.

You will then be accompanied to your room in the orthopedic surgery department. A nurse will take care of collecting your treatments, x-rays and documents to be signed.

For pre-operative preparation, you will be invited to shower with antiseptic soap and wear a blue shirt provided by the establishment.

Step 04
Discharge from the hospital

Once operated and if there were no complications, your hospital doctor will set the date for your discharge from the hospital and the medical secretary will prepare all the necessary documents for a proper discharge.

Before leaving the hospital, take the time to check everything and, if necessary, ask the doctor any questions. You will receive an “exit voucher” that must be sent quickly to the health insurance fund, as well as to your employer in order to assert your rights.

It is also possible that your hospital doctor will prescribe a new work stoppage for a period of time that he considers necessary for your recovery.

The day before

It is imperative that you respect hygiene rules.

Good body hygiene contributes to the prevention of the risk of infection during your operation.

Perform your depilation of the area to be operated on with a trimmer exclusively, as requested by the surgeon. If you do not have a trimmer, hair removal will be done in the hospital.

The use of a razor is to be avoided.

Remove all jewelry (earrings, wedding rings...), piercings that you leave at home; remove nail polish (hands and feet) and makeup.

At home, you must:

• Take a showering with liquid soap and a shampoo, use a washcloth and clean sponge towels;
• Put on clean pajamas and sleep in clean sheets.
• Brush your teeth carefully.

The day of the intervention

In the morning, at home:

In accordance with hygiene rules, take a shower and shampoo again;
Remove all jewelry and piercings;
Brush your teeth carefully.

Dress in loose, comfortable clothing and shoes without heels.

You need to stay on an empty stomach (do not drink, eat, or smoke even electronic cigarettes, no chewing gum, or candy) according to the recommendations of the anesthesiologist.

Bring:

• your usual medical treatment + prescription
• the treatment that may be prescribed during the anesthesia consultation
• your social insurance card
• your mutual insurance card
• an identity document
• any prescribed medical equipment: splints, crutches...
• imaging (x-rays; MRI; CT scan in connection with the operated limb)
• any document given during the surgical or anesthetic consultation.

Do not bring valuables or money, the hospital does not take responsibility for them.

You are responsible for all of your belongings and objects kept in your room.

The presence of an accompanying person is mandatory as soon as you return home but is not essential at the hospital for the duration of your stay.

For entry formalities, go directly to the reception of the outpatient unit (Hall A, 1st floor.)

Before going to the operating room, the nurse will check that this toilet has been properly carried out.

Take off the glasses, contact lenses, hearing and dental aids.
Report skin injuries to the health care team.
